From 9 to 12 September 2025, Can Sönmez, Constantin Keul, Meret Jürgens and Merlin Pohler took part in the Life Cycle Management Conference (LCM) in Palermo. During the event, they presented aspects of their current research in the form of posters and lectures followed by discussions.
On Wednesday, Can Sönmez presented the initial results of his research on the potential of bio-based global value chains in a short presentation. Meret Jürgens gave a long presentation on the implementation of circular economy in SMEs in the plastics sector. On Thursday, Constantin Keul spoke about the current status of sustainability assessment in universities in a short presentation. Merlin Pohler closed the programme on Friday with a poster presentation on the implementation of sustainability assessment in companies in the plastics sector. All participants took advantage of the subsequent discussion to gather suggestions and feedback.
The biennial conference is a leading global platform for environmental, economic and social sustainability.
This year's event was held under the motto ‘From Global to Local – Methods, Tools and Best Practices for an Efficient and Effective Sustainable Transition’. Participation in the LCM conference underlines the importance of research at the IKK and its contribution to sustainable solutions in plastics and recycling technology and in sustainability assessment.
