As a continuation of the collaboration between the IKK – Institute for Plastics and Circular Economy at Leibniz University Hannover (LUH) and the Faculty of Food Science and Nutrition at the University of Iceland (UoI), a project is being developed as part of a bachelor’s thesis by LUH student Malte Biegall. In collaboration with Assoc. -Prof. Ólafur Ögmundarson and Dr. Clara Vásquez-Mejía, a decision tree is being developed to assess measures for reducing the University of Iceland’s environmental impact and to provide concrete, data-based recommendations for action.
The work builds directly on a previous bachelor’s thesis by Carina Ehlers from 2025, which, based on a methodology for organisational life-cycle assessment developed at LUH, carried out the first life-cycle assessment at the UoI. The expansion of the data collected to include specific reduction measures thus makes an important contribution to the realisation of sustainability goals at the UoI.
