The challenges facing the plastics industry are growing due to the already decided and planned legal recycling quotas and the large gap between the supply and demand for recycled materials. According to Plastics Europe1, there could be a shortage of approximately one million tons of recycled material on the market in 2030.
The main reasons for this are the lack of reproducibility and quality assurance of recycled plastics due to their chemical composition and the fact that the quality of large quantities of plastics is currently determined by offline laboratory tests on a few grams. As a result, many industries are uncertain about the possible contamination of recycled plastics and currently categorically reject their use.
The IKK pursues a real-time inline analysis approach in the ongoing recycling extrusion process, so that, the entire quantity of extruded plastic recyclate is continuously examined. This enables 100 percent quality assurance and expands the range of applications for recycled plastics.
