Constantin Keul and Dr.-Ing. Venkateshwaran Venkatachalam presented their research findings on Life Cycle Assessments for Higher Education Institutions and the development of teaching modules in the field of sustainability assessment at the EULiST Global Conference in Aranjuez (Madrid).

The first EULiST Global Conference took place at Rey Juan Carlos University in Aranjuez (Madrid) from 20 to 21 November 2025. The aim of the conference was to bring together science, politics, industry and society to promote knowledge-based decisions for sustainable development through international cooperation. The conference took place for the first time this year and was organised by the EULiST Alliance (consisting of 10 European universities). In 2025, the conference focused in particular on the role of local communities in shaping sustainable, context-specific and scalable solutions, as well as on the importance of partnerships between universities and industry as transformative forces.

Within this framework, Constantin Keul gave a presentation on the results of his research into the development of a methodology for Life Cycle Assessment in Higher Education Institutions. The subsequent discussion was used to further expand partnerships for testing the methodology internationally so that case studies can be carried out at different types of universities. In his presentation, Dr.-Ing. Venkateshwaran Venkatachalam provided insights into the organisation and development of teaching modules in the field of sustainability assessment. In the ensuing exchange, connections to international universities were also established in order to develop possible joint modules.

As the first EULiST Global Conference was a resounding success, it was decided to continue holding the event every two years. The next conference will take place in 2027 at an EULiST partner university (National Technical University) in Athens. The focus there will be on dialogue between strategic international partners, transferring the proposed education and research solutions to communities outside Europe and setting new priorities for the future.

Participation in the conference underscores the importance of research at the IKK in the international academic area and promotes opportunities for international cooperation within the EULiST network and beyond.
