A DIN SPEC has been developed and published in collaboration with the IKK and 15 other consortium members.
DIN SPEC 91521 is aimed at manufacturers and packagers of cosmetic products, detergents and household care products and specifies the requirements for materials made from recycled materials that are intended for their packaging.
With its three quality levels, the standard provides a valuable basis for manufacturers and users of recycled plastics for a wider use of recyclates in packaging that must meet important safety requirements.
The three quality levels are.
- “Leave-on cosmetic products” (quality level A)
- “Rinse-off cosmetic products” and hand wash products (quality level B)
- Other household care products (quality level C)
The DIN also describes the screening methods to be used to determine the quality level of a particular recyclate.
