Hanover, 01.02.2024 - The IKK - Institute of Plastics and Circular Economy at Leibniz Universität Hannover – and Beiersdorf AG are continuing their mission for a sustainable future and intensifying their collaboration in the field of environmentally friendly cosmetics packaging. In view of the increasing importance of a functioning circular economy, the use of sustainable materials and the development of environmentally friendly packaging solutions are also coming into focus in the cosmetics sector. Under the guiding principle of a circular economy, the two partners are jointly researching ways in which recycled plastics and other sustainable materials can be optimally integrated into cosmetics packaging.
As part of the final presentation of Pia Ansahl's master's thesis on the migration behaviour of low-molecular substances in plastics, the IKK visited the newly opened Beiersdorf Campus in Hamburg. The meeting enabled an intensive exchange on the research results of the Master's thesis and future joint research topics. The focus is primarily on issues relating to packaging solutions made from recycled plastics with the typical challenges such as contamination and odour. In particular, ensuring the quality of recyclates from different input streams and compliance with strict legal requirements gives rise to a large number of research topics and issues that are to be investigated jointly.
The joint research projects within the framework of this co-operation will drive the development of environmentally friendly cosmetics packaging in order to meet the growing demands for sustainable practices in the cosmetics industry.
